In the summer of 2006, I visited Italy. I had signed up for a “plein aire” workshop to take place in Sorrento, on the Amalfi Coast. It was one of the most amazing adventures of my life and feel it changed the way I viewed nature as well as the way I paint. For one thing, I learned how to paint outdoors, with limited exposure to natural sunlight. I also learned how to paint more impressionistically with a brush. It was a great experience and I hope to return someday to do more painting. For now, I can go back there whenever I use one of the many photographs I took for reference to paint an Italian landscape. You may notice some very similar images as I’ve repainted some of my earlier works in palette knife.
